Photo Gallery: Durbar Square, Kathmandu
by jennybourne on June 26, 2012
At Thamel‘s centre is the historic Durbar Square, which is a World Heritage site designated by UNESCO. The square, which includes a temple complex and palace, was constructed by the Malla kings of Kathmandu in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (before the Gurkha conquest). The surrounding area is a labyrinth of old buildings and narrow twisting alleyways that are well worth exploring.
Here are a few photos from a self guided walking tour.
