Photo of the Day: The Rooftops of Kathmandu

The rooftops of Kathmandu display the character and colour of this beautiful and vibrant old city. When I think of Kathmandu, I think of the Cat Steven’s song and hum to myself the lyrics in the hopes that they will come true: “Kathmandu I’ll soon be seeing you.”

 

Photo Gallery: Durbar Square, Kathmandu

At Thamel's centre is the historic Durbar Square, which is a World Heritage site designated by UNESCO. The square, which includes a temple complex and palace, was constructed by the Malla kings of Kathmandu in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (before the Gurkha conquest). The surrounding area is a labyrinth of old buildings and narrow twisting alleyways that are well worth exploring.

The Thamel area of Kathmandu has been the centre of the tourist industry for over four decades. Thamel first evolved into a popular tourist destination during the 70's when it became a part of the "Hippie Trail." It is a fascinating part of the city.

A crowd was gathering outside the Arena Mexico. We pushed our way through the mass of people swarming the street side vendors and assumed our position in the cue. It was our first night in Mexico City and we had decided to attend a Mexican wrestling match.

Bourne Voyage Back In Action

After months of adventure and living out of a bag, this constant nomad is back home and ready to share stories from my recent travels. I already miss being on the road, but it sure is nice to not have to pack a bag every day or two!
