A trip to the Mysore Market, and its throngs of people, brought me back to the present. We joined the steady flow of people funneling in and out of the entrance’s dark and narrow archway. Like hundreds of little tributaries trickling together to form a mighty river, we merged with streams of people on either side of us creating a steady mass of shuffling people, .
Mysore Palace filled my imagination with scenes of the past… Indian Princesses wrapped in ornate silks and draped in elaborate gold jewelry, lounging in the cool shade of the open air courts while being entertained by dancers, poets and musicians.
The elaborate decadence of the court inspires a fanciful imagination, like my own…
So here are some additional photos of the Palace to inspire yours.
My interest in seeing Mysore lay in the city's colonial past as well as its reputation as being the yoga capital of the world. Due to a lack of time, I unfortunately did not get to experience yoga in Mysore (or anywhere else in India for that matter). And in all honesty, the intense heat was more than a slight deterrent. We did however get to explore and discover a few of the city’s hidden gems.
